Post Holiday to Scotland
So me and a close friend of mine (and fellow-HammerFall-fan) are planning to go on a holiday to Scotland. This will not be in the near future, but at least it will happen next year if everything will go as planned. I've been there a few times and I'm really into the landscape, especially the Highlands.

Usually I really suck at planning, but in this case, I really want to know one or two things about Scotland. My friend was thinking about going to a pub in Scotland. Does anyone know what the minimum age is to enter a pub (or order a beer) in Scotland? I'm afraid it is 21 years, and by then we'll both be 20. We're not the kind of persons to get drunk, we know when to stop, but they wouldn't know, would they?

Hey there,

I was in Scotland this winter for 4 months, so I guess I know enough about it. ;)

Don't worry, at 18 you get your beer. Besides I never experienced age controls in a pub, just at clubs. Anymore questions? I'll answer gladly everything about Scotland.

Yes, I've also been on the Orkneys a few times, very nice. Glencoe is great, by the way, Iona and Staffa were beautiful in good weather. Some way or another I've always had good weather in Scotland :D

But Islane, yes I have another question. Probably we will take a tent with us. Is it allowed to sleep in a tent just next to a very quiet road?

Actually I don't know. In the winter camping was not on my to-do list ;)
But I according to my Scottish friends it's officially not allowed, but tolerated almost everywhere. If you plan to set up your tent in the middle of nowhere, then nobody should be bothered. But keep in mind that open fire is definitly not allowed. If you prefer to camp near to a house or farm then of course you should ask the people there.

And yes, Glencoes is so beautiful! Just as Skye and all the rest of Scotland. ;) Unfortunately I never made it down to Staffa and Iona :(

Scotland feels like a second home to me, I try to go there at least once a year. Edinburgh is my favourite city. 2 years ago we made a 3 weeks tour through the highlands (Fort William, Glencoe, Glenshiel, Glenfinnan etc.) and also went to Skye and Lewis/Harris, such beautiful islands.

There is a new Scotland online community in the web, the people there are very friendly and helpful with everything related to Scotland, is it allowed to post the link here? If not, just send me a PM if interested.

You should go there if you can, seriously. I had a three-island-trip (Mull, Iona, Staffa). Staffa has Fingal's Cave, according to some old story it is the hideout of the monster Fingal.

Fort William, Glencoe, Lewis... very nice! Skye is on my to-do-list by the way.

Why not? Other forums don't have any problems with that I think, and I think the same rule can be applied to this forum :)

If one of you guys is thinking about booking a tour then I can just recommend Wild in Scotland (based in Edinburgh). 2 years ago I went with them for a 3 days trip up to Skye (via Stirling (including Bannockburn), the Trossachs, Glencoe, Fort William, Loch Ness, Culloden) and it was just awesome, certainly a few of the best days in my life ;) And I never got as soaking wet in my whole life as on Skye

That's so true, we spent 5 days on Skye and saw the sun for 3 hours max, but it rained a lot.

The Scotland community can be found at www.scotster.com, you can find my profile with quicksearch: Christine, I have a lot of Scotland photos posted there on my gallery.
