 Kiuas
Well now that Andreas brought them up I thought we should have a topic. Kiuas is a finnish band and they have a really unique way of mixing dozens of genres in their music. you can have power, death, thrash, folk, symphonic and progressive influences in just one song. They have released four albums so far and their line-up is pretty stable since they are close friends since their childhood (well exept the singer) The vocals of Ilja Jalkanen are mostly clean but the band has some rougher aproach songs too. Mikko Salovaara has been elected as one of the best musicians in finland three years straight. I highly recommend this band and I became a fan just before the release of The New Dark Age.
So the discography: 2004 Winter in June (ep) Many classics here but this record is just a collectors item now. The small label ran out of money just after the release but luckily Spinefarm found Kiuas. All of the songs have been re-recorded after this so you won't miss anything. (if you can find the rare bonus tracks)
2005 The Spirit of Ukko This may be the best metal record of all time. At least it ranks very high. Lots of finnish mythology influences. Buy this record first. The rest are amazing too but this is a perfect way to start. Recommended songs: Go for Warrior Soul. It is a true classic and goes for their Power Metal side. Any song on this album is just fine (well maybe not No More Sleep for Me which is not as good as the rest) but if you want to see sme different side of Kiuas after Warrior Soul you should try And the North Star Cried and if you want something similar to Warrior Soul go for the Title track.
2006 Reformation Reformation is maybe the weakest album of Kiuas so far but it ain't bad at all. The style is very close to the debut but the album lacks some all-time classics. You will just get the filler-feeling with some of the songs. Recommended songs: The New Chapter, Of Ancient Wounds and Reformation(Wrath of the Old Gods) are my favorites. Bleeding Strings gives also a different touch.
2008 The New Dark Age This is when Kiuas started to change to find a style that would fit them the best. Lyrical themes changed and the style became more metal. This is album is great and in a way it sounds like a different band compared to their previous albums. Yet you will recognize the same Kiuas doing some crazy stuff as good as ever. The aproach was a bit proggier and some fo the songs are difficult to get into but this album may be their catchiest once they open-up. Recommended Songs: The Decaying Doctrine will soon prove to be incredibly catchy and The New Dark Age has a monster of a riff. The Summoning is a lighter metal song and the closer the Wanderer's Lamentation has some amazing acoustic improvisation.
2010 Lustdriven I haven't bought this one yet but everything I have heard is very close to the debut in quality.

 Re: Kiuas
I heard a few songs, and it's really nice indeed. At least not as much vokillz as for example Ensiferum or Wintersun. Some songs remind me somehow of the faster Blind Guardian songs.

 Re: Kiuas
I've never heard of them... But Andreas, what do you mean by BG "faster" songs? Faster songs from newer albums, or like songs from for example Follow The Blind?

 Re: Kiuas
I don't know exactly anymore. Some of them were video clips. Anyway, the songs were good enough for me to add their whole discography to my wishlist

 Re: Kiuas
I asked that because I really like faster BG songs from newer albums, but those from Follow The Blind aren't really my favourite... So I'd like to know is this Kiuas worth listening or not!
