Actually, I might move irish folk to the first place on the list of my music pleasures. :P

What would possibly make you think that? Metal fans liking one of the best metal bands ever?

Who are you? One of the band members? Manowar never did something innovative or something, only make the world believe that metalheads are brainless dipshits that have a three word vocabulary.

A bit harsh maybe, you can like them or not, but I don't like them.

Well I'm glad you'll let me like them. The same can't be said of most Manowar haters. Hopefully we can avoid having a flame war over them.

That kind of people are just as annoying as Manowar fanboys. I always try to reply to people as I would do in real life, so no primary reactions from my side.

Actually, just before I wrote that this is "guilty music pleasure", I wanted to say "I don't know should I call this really guilty"... :D

And about Manowar, I personally like several songs...... but not that they're really one of my favourite bands.

I personally am a rather big fan of Manowar's music. I don't always agree with the guys their attitude, but I love the music. There are plenty of artists out there that write brilliant music but who have a shitty personality, but their character doesn't influence my opinion of the music. I also think it's utter bullshit and overrated (no offence) that stuff should be innovative or whatever to be considered as good.

Just my opinion, may sound very straightforward but not meant to offend (I leave everyone to their opinion).

Indeed! But... They actually did do something innovative. They played power metal before it was even invented. I think we all pretty much agree that Helloween invented power metal. Their debut was in 1984-86 (don't remember which of the years, but i don't think '86 cuz I think that's when Walls of Jericho came out). Manowar's debut was in 1982, 2-4 years before Helloween's. And you can't deny that, even if the rest of the album isn't power metal, at the very least the title track, Battle Hymn, is. On a different note, I forgot to say this earlier, but it's not so much Manowar's fault that people think we're stupid as it is the fault of some of the fans. People who think we're brainless probably don't listen to metal, so they probably get their ideas of metalheads from people who are, and if you count Manowar compared to their fans, there are four members of the band, but thousands of fans. The fans are going to affect outside opinion more than the band itself.

Exactly how it should be.

Also true. But except for acting like the biggest douches ever, what is their achievement in general for the metal scene?

Well I don't know, I'll have a listen. But even if it is, as we say in Holland (and probably Flanders too): one swallow doesn't make summer yet.

Manowar fanboys can be quite annoying indeed. As for Manowar, at least Joey DeMaio is a joke. Talking about things like honour, being true and such, while being the biggest cashgrabber in metal. Battle Hymns 2011 is a nice example, and I'm not mentioning the Dio tribute, because it's a bit too delicate to judge that.

OK, I took a listen to the song Battle Hymn, and it's by no means a power metal song. This is traditional heavy metal. For an example of some real power metal, check this out:

Is it necessary for a band to achieve something? They play music, people like it. Why does there have to be more to it than that?

Of course when a band does achieve something, it has to be respected. There is a difference between respecting a musician for what he has achieved, and liking someone's music. I can respect musicians, even if I don't like their music, because they have had a big influence. Many bands out there haven't achieved anything, but it doesn't make me like / enjoy the music less.
