Post Re: 666 - The Enemy Within
I remember again why I find Oscar awesome. Our first metal concert was HammerFall more than two years ago. Afterwards, when the band was greeting the public, Oscar was addressing the people at the back (so including us). We were the only people replying enthusiastically, so he gave us a thumbs up 8-) Oh, the fanboyism... don't care about it sometimes. And the My Sharona-thing, as I pointed out in the Dokk'em thread.

Concerning the number 666: I just talked about it with my brother, he said it's nonsense to be afraid of a number. Not that I have ever been, I was just curious about the meaning of the song. In the end it's all about making something more interesting by giving it something controversial/scary.

Ok, since this topic was brought up, I'm gonna give my 2 cents:

I know we all have different religious beliefs, but I have to admit as a born-again christian, I am beginning to pay attention to song titles and lyrics more and more. So, I definitely have a problem with a song title such as 666 - the enemy within. As for the song "Legion", the lyric that says, "my name is Legion" I believe that is taken from the Bible where Jesus asks a man that was possessed by demons, "what is thy name?" and the man answered, "my name is Legion for we are many."

Hmmm, what I don't get. Isn't it in general a problem for Christians to listen to Hammerfall?
They sing about slaying people and stuff. Isn't it against the 10 commandments?
Ok, they don't slay themself people but isn't singing about it a sin itself?

I know why I'm a pastafarian. To be pastafarin is less complicated

Well, then christian people can also not read most books, watch tv or go to cinema.... :D

As I mentioned before, don´t take the lyrics too serious! There just songs with a topic. It´s not that the Band wants to convince us for example that we all should take action in wars because only in fight you can get honour and glory. The songs just describe something. Like a fantasy book would do.
So listen and enjoy!

With HF I consider it pure fun, something you can't possibly take serious. And if you do, you're a douchebag :P

Actually the Bible has many stories of battles and people being slain, so no, reading about that or hearing about that is not a sin.

If you say so....I never red the bible so I don´t know the stories except of the well known ones.

Since we have the Church to thank for the crusades back in the Middle Ages, I can't imagine they'd have a problem with violence. :P
Other than that, there's also a type of heavy metal called "Christian Metal" ... I think if Christians have a problem with heavy metal (or any other type of music) it has mostly to do with the lyrics (although people always have an explanation for why something is bad in their opinion, even if the explanation makes no sense at all  ).

It's all a very personal matter for christians. I mean, I can listen to this particular song. But if another christian says "I'm not listening to this song, because it doesn't work for me", then it's also good.

This person shouldn't think that it works like this for everyone. It's just like I can't say that christians should listen to this song, only because I can see things in perspective.

It simply isn't good to mix music and religion. You can believe in whatever you want, but still not taking away the pleasure of listening to some good stuff from you! Let the songwriter bother about the meaning, you should listen to whatever you like and not letting it affects your opinion on other stuff, such as religion. I commented on 666-THe Enemy Withing because it really does have the strange lyrics, but it would never prevent me from liking it...
