You still care too much about other people's opinions. Your own opinion is the one that matters, the rest can agree to disagree with you ;)

And yeah, men are out of their own more muscular than women. But you can make it up with spirit. And I don't think you lack that.

Post Re: Sports anyone?
Hm, my reasons for wanting to be a boy are a bit different. I don't mean by look and clothes, as Andre said, I'm the only one who decides about that. But the only thing I mind is other's prejudices when they see a girl. They immediately think I'm weak, interested in fashion, hate violence, gentle, blah blah. I always dreamed of being a warrior, not a captivated princess waiting for her prince charming. I always loved fairytales, but imagined myself as a hero that goes into the world and fights evil forces. The problem is, most people think, when I say that I love tales, that I love them because I dream of coming of my prince.
Or, another example. A few months ago, we had a psychology class, and our teacher was explaining something about when do our senses become keen, for example in dangerous situations... and then she gave the example: "You're walking through a dark street and hear footsteps behind. Of course you'll get scared. In fact, boys maybe won't, but girls would certainly feel uncomfortable", and I was like "WHAT THE HELL?!" and shouted "I WOULDN'T!". Everyone just gave me strange look.
But why did she say that? Everyone thinks that girls are cowards!!! Almost every girl dreams of guy who'd protect her! But I hate the feeling of being uncapable of something! Me and my friends love exploring abandoned houses, we adore horror movies, and I personally HATE romances! I don't hesitate getting involved in fight! I'm not poor little hurt being! And most people see women that way! They always cry! Well, I always prevent myself from crying on purpose!!! I want to go to the army! My dream is to show the world that there are tough girls! My favourite Disney cartoon is Mulan (if anyone knows about it)!

Sorry for the long post, I had to get that out.

It's just stereotypical... I don't get upset about it coz it's a waste of energy, I just say that I think I'm (mentally) half a man :P Every time I read "this is a typical man movie / this is typical man music", I'm like "ok, I must check it out then". When it are typical women's movies on the other hand, I try to avoid them. And when I see men's clothing I like that's somewhat in my size I just buy it (which is why I've walked around in shirts that are too big for a long time, haha, still do so occasionally). I do try to point out the wrongness of stereotypes when I get the opportunity though... (or reply with another stereotype could work too, confronting the other party with it.)

And I so much appreciate that, that's probably the way to get along with it all. I'm just too sensitive to such things so they piss me off easily. That's the advice I'm mostly getting, but when someone tells me personally "you're a girl, you can't do it", well then it's really too much!

You know what, Ine? I must respect you because of this post, you rule!

now i read ;)
yeah but you see, there are not many people of aslike thinking. it's always annoying for me, for example i have to know how to dance cuz i am a girl. i have to be gentle cuz i am a girl. i have to be weak cuz i am a girl. i must hate sport and cars (both i adore) cuz i am a girl. well - FUCK IT!
few days ago came a new boy to play with us some football. he saw me and said: ''what is this girl doing here?'' i didn't manage how to react and my friends were faster. he got a punch straight in face and the answer was like: ''she's not just a girl, you idiot'' well, we were playing ''hard'' (without rules as always. with fighting for a damn ball, tough) and i think he won't forget that crazy day! now i really can say that i have friends ^^

Thanks Jelena, much appreciated

Infected: good that you have friends who stick up for you :)

I understand that it's very annoying when you're confronted with these stereotypes, but letting them piss you off is a waste of your energy and it doesn't achieve all that much. An unexpected approach may work better to confront these people and show them that they're wrong. If they say "girls can't do this" you could ask them in a normal voice: "I'm curious, why wouldn't girls be able to do this?" and they will be forced to give a proper answer. This usually proves to be rather difficult, and confronts them with the inaccuracy of what they're saying. Or, what usually works best, is to just prove them wrong with a "demonstration". ;)

I'm mostly confronted with the "metalhead = scary people" stereotype, and the "female metalhead? ah so you either just listen to gothic metal or you're here because of your boyfriend" misconception  And the judgmental stuff like "you can only like one genre of music" or "you don't look like the type who likes this/that". It doesn't always help that people think I'm crazy, but hey, as long as I'm having fun that's the most important part :D

But when you ask them why girls can't do this or that, they say "because they're girls and they're weaker than men".... oooh god. -.-
Infected, these are true friends... As for me, I sometimes join the football game and there's always some asshole that says I'm an excess there, that they can't play normally because of me etc. These are the idiots from my class. But when we played it once on training for warming up (and me and my friend are the only girls there), every single guy told me that I play great. Something's wrong...

As for complains about being a female metalhead, I've never had such problems. Among the people I know, there are many female metalheads and they're getting along with others quite well, understood completely and not being accused of these things you complain about. To non-metalheads we're brutal, scary, dark etc. as much as guys are. Well, non-metalheads know too little about it all to say much, and metalheads accept girls normally.
But for being metalhead in general, it is funny how people judge whether I'll like something or not before I even check it out, but that's completely another thing that we could make a separate topic for... :)
