Post News on Ronnie James Dio
From a bulletin I received on MySpace today...
Quote:
According to an article posted Nov. 25 on Blabbermouth.net, Ronnie James Dio's wife and manager, Wendy Dio issued a statement that said that the legendary Rainbow and Black Sabbath frontman had been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. Here's her full statement:
"Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.
"Thanks to all the friends and fans around the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up.
"Long Live Rock and Roll, Long Live Ronnie James Dio"
Dio was forced to cancel his European tour last week when he became ill and was hospitalized.
Dio, who rose to fame as the lead singer of Rainbow in the 1970s, is best known for replacing Ozzy Osbourne as the singer for Black Sabbath, and for his work in the 1980s in his own band, Dio.
His albums include "Heaven & Hell" and "Mob Rules" by Black Sabbath, as well as "Holy Diver" with Dio, and many others. His most recent album is "The Devil You Know" with Heaven & Hell — made up of the members of his incarnation of Black Sabbath.

Keeping him in our hearts, thoughts and prayers!

I have to admit that I never heard one single song with Dio singing it. But since he's an icon of heavy metal and such, I still hope he'll be allright.

I was planning to go to the Dio concert in Antwerp on the 1st of December... the news was posted on the website of the venue as well, where I read it... I saw him live with Heaven & Hell twice (once this past summer at the Graspop Metal Meeting festival) and it was great. All best wishes to him and his family, I really hope he'll be ok!

I've been fortunate enough to see him four times. Once in my hometown, once at the Texas Jam, and twice with Black Sabbath, both on the first tour when he began with them, and on their last tour using that name before they switched to Heaven and Hell. He is nothing short of incredible on stage, such power and presence.

Course, being just shy of 5'2" myself, I really can't talk. Well, I can, ramble on terribly in fact. Anyway...

Wow, I love his music. It's sad to hear that he has to go through stomach cancer. I just lost my sister to cancer and it was not pretty.

I can understand that, Rexxy, and my sympathies to you and your family on your loss.

I was glad to see they caught RJD's in the early stages, really hope that makes the difference. By the time my Dad's was discovered it had already spread. And he's at one of the premier hospitals for treatment as well. Still, even if all is successful, which I hope and pray it will be, it will probably take quite a toll on him. He's not a kid anymore, well into his sixties I believe.
