Post Who or what do you read?
Who or what do you read?

As i sit and type this my gaze keeps wandering over to the georgeous book my other half bought for me today......Stephen Kings new addition Under The Dome.

I am an avid book reader with 300 or more of my own books( and i just had a clear out) I also go to the library every weekend and get all the new releases, as well as taking the girls as they have a story each every night at bedtime. I love Horrors, crime(true and fictional) and craft being my top categories, but i will read anything that looks interesting. There is nothing better than snuggling down under a comfy blanket with a cup of tea(or a beer) on my reclining chair in the evening when everyone is in bed or having a really hot bubble bath immersing myself in a book.

My favourite authors include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Shaun Hutson, John Saul, Richard Layman, Graham Masterton, Robin Cook, Patricia Cornwall, James Herbert, James Patterson, and Dan Brown to name a few.

Only thing is he has 2 nights off this week and i'll not get a chance to do it until wednesay evening!!!!!but we are watching the new Star trek movie on blu ray tonight, so maybe not so bad.

Oh, a perfect topic! I love books and call more than 250 my own. I have them all listed nicely by a software and even keep track of them with it. Unfortunately just a tenth of my beloved books are here because of a lack of board space :( But I keep on exchanging them after finished one ;)

Anyway, in fact I love almost all genres except crime (dunno why, but I prefer watching crime movies). The best themes are historical fiction, fantasy (Discworld, Dragonlance and Guild of the Black Mages are my favourite series), adventure and thrillers with a scientific background. Main authors to me are Rebecca Gable (historical), Terry Pratchett (fantasy) and the books of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. And a few dozen others :P

I just finished part 1 of the Kingkiller Chronicle called The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and it was such a great pleasure to read!

And I justed forgot to mention my love for all the Asterix comics!;)

I love to read, mostly fantasy. I don't really have a specific favourite author... I just go to the library and see what fantasy series I can find :D
I'll also read some of the classics in literature (Gone With the Wind, For Whom The Bell Tolls, ... ) depending on the subject.

However I still have a very long list of "books I still have to read" and I can't find the time to read as often as I want :(

I got my "to read-list" of books recently from Blind Guardian's songs. Just a few pages seperates me from finishing the Book of Merlin, the last addition to Terence H. White's The Once and Future King. It's one of my favourite books already. Furthermore I love reading Tolkiens books. Right after I finished the Book of Merlin, I want to read all seven parts of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. I never read a book of him before, so I'm curious

Oh my, this will not be short. I’m not even sure where to begin. You mentioned James Herbert, Lara, have you read Others? One of my favorites of his, really well written and such a great twist.

Ramsey Campbell, Richard Matheson, Harlan Ellison, William F. Nolan, Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, just a few off the top of my head. I also remember a short story by Matheson’s son, Richard Christian Matheson I believe is his name, not going to dig for the book right now. The story I remember, called Third Wind, was maybe 3 or 4 pages long. It was one of those “WHAM”, hit you in the eyes kind of things. Fantastic, highly recommend it if you ever come across it.

Of course classics like Poe and Lovecraft.

F. Paul Wilson in general, and his Repairman Jack series in particular. I love Jack, one of the best characters ever created, imho.

Anne Rice, Laurell K. Hamilton, though I have to say I prefer the Meredith Gentry Fae series over the Anita Blake, I’ve enjoyed a good laugh with Lindsey Sands’ vampire books, nice quick read, enjoyable if you’re not looking for something too deep and grabbing. The old Vampire Chronicles tend to keep me up, reading one after another, once I get started there. LOL Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Count de St. Germain is an all time favorite as far as vampires go.

Sword and Sorcery, so of course Robert Jordan (curious to see how the last book of the Wheel of Time turns out, since we sadly lost Mr. Jordan and it will be written by someone else.) We also lost the incredible David Eddings in the past year, and I can’t imagine listing books and not putting the Belgariad in there somewhere. I do have to admit, though, that my all time favorite Eddings is The Redemption of Althathus.

Speaking of S&S, if you haven’t read Dave Duncan’s Tales of the King’s Blades, another very high recommendation there. Excellent style, wonderful characters, another set I go back and read over and over again.

Clive Barker- Books of Blood, Hellraiser and all aside, which are all great, and I love them… check out Abarat. It’s written for his daughter, and doesn’t have all the blood and gore and sex but that out of this world imagination is in full swing; the world he creates unlike anything I’ve read. Of course, that’s not surprising, from the man who gave us Pinhead. LOL

Frank Herbert- I go back and read all the Dune books about every 2 years or so. Or whenever I happen to watch the movie, which I love, but which leaves out so much of the subplot I’m left hungry for the details that make this series so outstanding. I rather enjoy the new ones his son is doing in the last few years. Haven’t read them all, and I wouldn’t hold them up to the originals, but they help add to the story, they’re well written I think, though I don’t find myself going back to them again and again the way I always will the first books of the series.

I know I’m leaving out tons, and someone will post something and I’ll go OH YEAH!!! And I’m always looking for something else to read, even though I reread the favorites again and again. Someone asked me once why I didn’t take all my books to the bookstore and trade them in. I was horrified; it would be like trading in my friends!

i have 3 of the series, one of my friends was disappointed because she said after book 4 that it turned bit more horror than fantasy. Stephen king does psycological over gore horror. one of my favourites is Christine. Cell is another excellent book, so is the tommyknockers......i could go on for ages ...... :D

I think my favorite King will always be The Stand. Epic novel, wipe out 99% of the world's population and then the real fight begins. And The Shining, though I admit that's probably partly because of Nicholson's portrayal in the movie. One my favorites of his roles ever. And it really goes a bit far afield from the original line of the book, but anyway... back to books. LOL

Going the other direction, I'd add the Nikki Six autobiography The Heroin Diaries to the list. Very strong, painfully honest, and while I wouldn't really say "enjoyed" was the correct word, it's very well worth the read.

I have times when I might read three big books in am month while I usually don't read so much.
I have always enjoyed reading books.

I have to say that I really enjoyed reading some books by Ilkka Remes and taavi Soininvaara last month but it has been a but quiet.
